Project Name: Molla Yegan Madrasah Restoration and Transformation into a Family-Child Activity Center

Location: Yildirim, Bursa

Year of Implementation: 2020-2021

Project Description:

Built at the end of the 14th century by Kara Eyne Bey, one of the emirs of the Ottoman Sultan Yıldırım Bayezid, this historical building is also known as Kara Eyne Bey Madrasah. In the first half of the 15th century, during the reign of Murad II, it became known as "Molla Yegan Madrasa" due to the fact that Molla Yegan, one of the most important Ottoman scholars, served as a muderris for many years.

Architectural Features:
The madrasah consists of twelve rooms and a classroom and has survived in two blocks extending in the east-west direction in a large courtyard.

The building has classical Ottoman madrasa architecture:

  • Classroom and fountain sections have not survived
  • The walls are built with one row of rubble stone and three rows of bricks
  • Two blocks of six rooms each covered with a barrel vault
  • The roof is covered with lead
  • Subjected to an extensive renovation in 1723

Restoration and New Function:
With the restoration project to be realized, Molla Yegan Madrasah will be transformed into a Family-Child Activity Center by preserving its traditional texture. In this context, the following sections will be included in the structure:

  • Toy Library
  • Music Room
  • Cinema Room
  • Game Rooms
  • Computer Workshop
  • Indoor and Outdoor Event Areas

Conclusion:
With this project, Molla Yegan Madrasah will continue to serve as a modern education and social activity center by preserving its cultural heritage. Both the historical structure will be preserved and Bursa will gain a new center that will contribute to the social development of children and families.
