Bursa-Osmangazi Forestry Museum Outbuilding Restoration Work
Built in Bursa Osmangazi in the 19th century, Saatçi Ali Mansion stands out with its Baroque style and traditional Turkish house plan. The building, which stands out with its rich decorations, ceiling embroideries and historical garden, now serves as the Forestry Museum.

Project Description:
Saatçi Ali Mansion, one of the most important examples of Bursa's 19th century Ottoman architecture, was built in the Baroque style reflecting the effects of the westernization period and is one of the rare buildings that exhibits the combination of this understanding with the traditional Turkish house plan. It has a special place in Bursa's cultural heritage with its two-story wooden construction, ceiling decorations and historical elements in its garden.
History of Saatçi Mansion:
- It was built as a pavilion in the 19th century.
- It served as Bursa Middle Forestry School between 1939-1946.
- After the Bursa Regional Directorate of Forestry moved to its new building in 1983, it was converted into a museum and contributed to the cultural life of Bursa as the Forestry Museum.
- It was officially opened as a museum with a ceremony held on March 29, 1989.
Restoration Works:
Within the scope of the restoration carried out between 2020-2021, the following works were carried out while preserving the historical identity of the mansion:
- Reinforcement of the load-bearing timber frame of the structure
- Renovation of facade claddings and wooden details in accordance with the original
- Conservation and repair of ceiling decorations
- Maintenance and restoration of the historic pergola and lion's mouth pool in the garden
- Works for the modernization and conservation of museum areas
This project aims to transfer the historical and artistic values of Saatçi Ali Mansion to future generations. This important step towards preserving Bursa's cultural heritage has enabled the mansion to continue its mission in history.
